discoveries, excursions & experiences in southern morocco

At Dar al Hossoun, you can enjoy the tranquility of the place whilst walking around the gardens, painting, taking pictures, swimming or enjoying some traditional Moroccan cuisine at our cookery classes, or simply relaxing at the wellness and treatment area or by the pool.

For those who wish to have a more active time, there are plenty to choose from: hikes, bike rides (bikes available on site), carriage rides, visits to the souks and tannery nearby, discovery of the “lost” valley of the High or Anti-Atlas region, Berber villages and tours of private homes and gardens.
Having travelled across Morocco for over 20 years and settled in Taroudant since 2009, we live and work in southern Morocco and would be happy to share with you our experiences, our outlook and stories during some of the many walks and trips we offer on a one-to-one basis.
Taroudant is the perfect place to discover the Souss area: Taroudant, the surrounding valleys and mountains, Agadir and the Atlantic coast…

For culture and heritage enthusiasts, discover Morocco’s ancestral treasures.

Originally, each Amazigh (Berber) village had its own Agadir (or Igherm, plural Igoudar), a collective fortress where the population protected their crops, seeds, jewelry, and other precious goods. These buildings also housed common areas: a small mosque, underground water cisterns, and sometimes even a prison, designed to withstand a siege. Just 45 minutes to an hour from Dar al Hossoun, in the heart of the magnificent landscapes of the Souss plain and the Anti-Atlas mountains, you will have the opportunity to visit the Agadir of Inoumar, a site that is over 700 years old. It will be opened to you by the Amin, the trusted man appointed by the community and still the keeper of the keys. Not far from there, you will discover another place steeped in history: the Kasbah of Hamou Olyazid, chief of the Inoumar tribe in the 14th century. This former tribal decision-making center will immerse you in the Amazigh world through its architecture, traditions, and stories of the daily life of its former inhabitants. To conclude this cultural immersion, lunch will be served at a local’s home in a village near the Kasbah (or as a picnic, depending on your preference).

THE EXTRAORDINARY IGOUDARROAD (FORTIFIED GRANARIES)

DAR AL HOSSOUN MAISON D'HOTES TAROUDANT ECO LOGDE kasbah et montagne

1,300 Dhs/person (minimum 2 people).

Departure at 9:15 a.m., return at 5:30 p.m.

Guide, lunch
at the Kasbah of Tizourgane and transportation included (7 to 8 hours, approx.)

For lovers of culture and historical heritage, we will guide you on a discovery of the most beautiful fortified collective granaries in Morocco.
Originally, each Amazigh (Berber) village had its own Agadir or Igherm (Igoudar in the plural). People, crops, seeds, jewelry, and more were kept safe in these fortified buildings.

Each family had a private cell within the walls, which also housed a small mosque, underground water cisterns, and a prison large enough to withstand a siege!
An hour and 15 minutes from Dar al Hossoun, several igoudars (granaries) dating back more than 700 years will be opened to you by L’Amin (the trusted man) appointed by the population and always keeper of the keys. In the vastness of the Anti-Atlas landscape, you will continue on to the Kasbah of Tizourgane, “little Carcassonne,” built of granite in the 13th century.

A fortress that became a kasbah with the construction of dwellings within its walls in the 16th century.

On the way, you can stop and stroll through a colorful traditional weekly souk. This unmissable and popular part of Moroccan life will take you on a journey back in time (Wednesdays and Sundays in Ait Baha, Thursdays in the small village of Khémis Ida Ou Gnidif).
